Adopt-a-Family for Thanksgiving-Sponsors   Specific Instructions and Frequently asked Questions

Adopt-a-Family Ministries was begun to accomplish two purposes:

  • To help families in need, showing them love of Christ through serving and through the relationships we develop with the families.

  • To provide opportunities for Followers of Jesus who desire to live their faith out through practical and meaningful service to people throughout the year.

We encourage you to pick a size family that you could also do Christmas gifts for.  If you sign up for BOTH Thanksgiving and Christmas, simply contact the family for their Christmas “wish list” when it is convenient for you.  Remember that you are not obligated to get everything on their list.

What is Adopt-a-Family for Thanksgiving and how does it work?

AAF for Thanksgiving providing a basket with all the fixin’s for a Thanksgiving Meal for a family of need.  The general cost is about $40 per family, please reference the suggested list of food items to purchase.  You may also put other goodies in if you choose (i.e. Card, pictures your kids draw, etc.  Have fun with it! )

When do we get our family and can we pick the size family I want?

This year, it is our goal to give you all the info for your adopted family when you sign up at the Adopt-a-Family Table at a weekend service starting Nov. 3rd and through Nov. 18th.  If you sign up online http://www.outreachatbayside.com/AdoptAFamily.htm, we will contact you ASAP to give you your family.  Please give us the best # to reach you.

What if the family we adopted for Thanksgiving is too large or us to handle for Christmas?

This is a wonderful opportunity to partner up with your small group, friends, relatives, or your co-workers to adopt the family, but please consider ahead of time the needs of a family.

When do we have to deliver?

We leave this totally up to you and the family you are adopting, but allow for a frozen turkey.

What if we cannot deliver?

We highly recommend that you deliver.  It is a joy to do as a family or group and it does help make our job manageable.  However, if you are leaving town, etc. and cannot deliver, you may drop off your basket at a weekend service on Nov. 17th or 18th.  Please put an envelope in the basket with a gift certificate for the turkey and perishable items so that the family can pick up these items when they choose

Do you want feedback on how it goes?

Yes, Please do…This is a great encouragement to our team and helps us be more effective if you report problems as well.  We will use your stories (be brief) to encourage others (and we will use fictitious names where appropriate to protect your adopted family’s privacy).

For additional questions or information, please first contact your Adopt-A-Family Coordinator.  If unavailable e-mail Tony Daugherty spu07@yahoo.com or call at 916-296-2367.
